LG’s Office Denies Request for More Time

SecureVoteUtah was formed to let the people decide what kind of election system Utah should have. Our Governor and legislative leaders have ignored what we believe is the will of the people. We should return to the safe practice of voting on paper ballots in neighborhood precincts, and counting them there with observers watching. An exception should be made for those who cannot vote in person.

Confidence in the election system is at an all-time low. This is no time for experimenting with the elite-favored ranked choice voting, or casting a virtual ballot on the internet.

The initiative process in Utah is difficult, to say the least. Despite that fact, thousands have responded to the call in supporting this effort. We want to extend our profound gratitude to them. There’s more to do! Volunteers are needed to process petitions for submission. And please, don’t stop getting signatures!

We want to let you know we respectfully asked the Lt. Governor for extra time and other concessions to complete this process, after coming to understand that our request was fair and reasonable. Our request was refused. Therefore, we intend to pursue an emergency injunction in federal court.

For now, we need to focus our efforts with the current hard deadline of February 15th in mind. But stay tuned.

Sincerely,

— The Sponsors of the Secure the Vote Act of 2022
